A young but confident Miami squad had a great task ahead of them when they had to face the relentless Nebraska Cornhuskers at home in the Orange Bowl. Nebraska had won all their games in the 1983 season by an average score of 52-16. Miami scored 17 unanswered points and therefore let the Huskers know they were in for a dogfight. The Canes led 31-17 going into the fourth quarter and stuffed a daring two-point conversion at the end of a furious Nebraska comeback to win 31-30.
